Story & photos by Nannette Kilbey-Smith

Members of the La Vernia Volunteer Fire Department are working to contain a blaze on Oak Hill Road near La Vernia.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Tammy Worthington, a mobile home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived in the scene at approximately 11:15 a.m. today. Firefighters also are contending with wind, near-freezing temperatures, & live ammunition exploding.

Responders used a tractor to pull vehicles away from the home of Lee and Pat Eaton at 173 Oak Hill Road; the homeowners were not home, according to neighbors.

Also on the scene were members of the La Vernia EMS & Wilson County Sheriff's Office. Rehab 1, the La Vernia Volunteer Fire Department's firefighter rehab & rest unit, also is on the scene.
