Candidates file for city council, school board seats

Voters will have some choices in the May 9 election for some entities, after candidates filed their intentions to appear on the ballot.

To be on the May ballot, candidates had to file by Feb. 27.

The positions and the candidates who filed for them are as follows:

Cities

•China Grove -- for mayor, Dennis A. Dunk; for three at-large council seats, Frank Bennett, Margie Holisky, and Larry J. Keller. The election will be canceled, due to lack of opposition.

•Elmendorf -- for council seats, Michael J. Gonzales and Richard B. Rodriguez (place 1); R.M. “Andy” Anderson and Jesus A. Palomo (place 2); and Tracie Y. Del Bosque and Tommy Hicks (place 4)

•Falls City -- for at-large council seat: Gery Jendrusch. The election will be canceled, due to lack of opposition.

•La Vernia -- for three at-large council seats: Mark S. Doege, Marie Gerlich, and Jennifer Moczygemba. The election will be canceled, due to lack of opposition.

•Nixon -- for four at-large council seats: Gloria Ballejo, Larry Harrison, John Mercier, and Dorothy Riojas. The election will be canceled, due to lack of opposition.

•Poth -- for three at-large council seats: Keith Rodgers and Jason Smolka. No one filed for the third seat up for election. The election will be canceled, due to lack of opposition.

•St. Hedwig -- for council seats: Dwayne Padalecki (place 1); Walter Wyrwich and Doug Thomas (place 3); and Francisco Arevalo (place 4)

•Stockdale -- for mayor: Ray Wolff; for council seats: Sherry D. Lambeck (district 1); Saul Bosquez (district 2); and Neal Bennett (district 5). The election will be canceled, due to lack of opposition.

School districts

•Falls City -- for two at-large trustees: Wayne Lyssy and Marilyn “Mindy” Jendrusch. The election will be canceled, due to lack of opposition.

•La Vernia -- for trustees: Dr. David W. Cribb and Darla Elenbaas (place 5); Janice Gimbel (place 6); and James Barnett (place 7)

•Nixon-Smiley -- for trustees: Frank “Bud” Box (place 2) and Richard Lott (place 3). The election will be canceled, due to lack of opposition.

•Poth -- for four at-large trustees: Rogelio “Roy” Cruz, Wendy Fuller, Richie Harris, Dawn Kollodziej Kerby, Lance Malcher, and Wesley J. West

•Stockdale -- for trustees: Barry L. Osborne II (district 3) and Patricia J. Donsbach (district 4). The election will be canceled, due to lack of opposition.

Hospital district

•Wilson County Memorial Hospital District -- for board members: Marcelo Laijas Jr. (precinct 2), David Watson (precinct 3), and Amy M. Clark (precinct 4). No one filed for precinct 1.

The election will be canceled, due to lack of opposition. According to a statement from the hospital district, the three candidates will take office in May, and they, together with the other board members, will appoint the board member for precinct 1.

The appointee must be a resident of precinct 1.

Water district

•Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District -- for one board member from each county represented: Frank Kruciak, Karnes County; Diane Savage, Wilson County; Blaine Schorp, Frio County; and Jay Troell, Atascosa County. The election will be canceled, due to lack of opposition.
