Torrential rains are being blamed for some treacherous road conditions in Karnes County, where Sheriff Dwayne Villanueva said just after 4:30 p.m. April 22 that U.S. 181 is shut down approximately 6 miles north of Karnes City.

Villanueva said the highway is closed in both directions, due to a tractor-trailer that is stuck in the mud. Crews currently are working to free the vehicle.

The sheriff also said there are areas of U.S. 181, S.H. 72, and other roadways with water over them. Motorists are advised to exercise caution.
