Wild weather washes out Memorial Day weekend
Photographer Jim Kane shares these dramatic images captured with his iPhone of an EF-0 tornado as it forms and touches down May 25 near Poth, one of two tornadoes confirmed that day in Wilson County. “This little ‘hi howdy’ tornado kept dissipating and then reforming,” Kane told the Wilson County News. He was “... excited, adrenaline pumping with a first-time experience of a tornado less than 300 yards away from me.” In one image, Kane captured debris flying as the tornado touched down near Pfeil’s Home and Garden Materials on C.R. 220 between Floresville and Poth, causing substantial damage. Another twister left a 1.7-mile path of destruction near Pandora the same day; no one was hurt in either instance. The tornadoes were part of a storm system that caused severe flooding in Wimberley and San Marcos and power outages across a wide area, and dumped as much as 15 inches of rain in some parts of South Central Texas.
The Austin-San Antonio National Weather Service Forecast Office has confirmed that two separate EF-0 tornadoes touched down in Wilson County May 25, punctuating a weekend of treacherous weather conditions throughout much of Texas. . . .
