Statement by Susan Kibbe, Executive Director, South Texans’ Property Rights Association:
We commend Donald Trump for taking the time and effort to come to Laredo to begin to learn firsthand the realities that our members face on a daily basis.
We are confident that the media attention to his visit will help the American people understand the failures of the federal government to fulfill its basic responsibility of securing our sovereign border and the magnitude of what the people of Texas have had to do to fill the huge void that has been left.
Our only requests of Mr. Trump are that he make return visits to Texas border regions, which we will happily arrange, to experience our extremely diverse geography and illegal immigration patterns, understand why many hundreds of illegal immigrants have died 50 to 70 miles north of the border, and consider the market forces for labor and drugs in the United States that has empowered the Mexican cartels to thrive because of failed federal policies.
We are confident that once Mr. Trump becomes fully aware of the abdications of the federal government and the complexities of commerce with Mexico, this country’s third largest trading partner after Canada and China and far ahead of Japan, he will join us in praising what Texas has done to compensate for failed Washington policies.
Beginning with former Governor Rick Perry and continuing with Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, House Speaker Joseph Straus, and the members of the Texas Legislature, Texas has committed well over a billion dollars, plus the time and effort of thousands of state troopers and National Guard members, to help protect the safety of Texans and all Americans.
It is now time for the President and the United States Congress to act!
South Texans’ Property Rights Association (STPRA), with members representing over 6 million acres of property, serves as a unifying force for South Texas by bringing the power of information and rational discourse to many of the issues that face our region, our state, and our nation. STPRA strives to be a catalyst for finding solutions to some of the important challenges that exist for South Texas property owners. http://STPRA.org
