Help Wanted

The Wilson County Clerk's Office is accepting applications for a full-time clerk. Qualifications: Must have two (2) years office experience dealing with the public, be computer literate, use a 10 punch adding machine, and be able to use a typewriter. Four fire departments are battling a large grass fire near the Jackson Nature Park on C.R. 401 west of Stockdale. Officials said the fire -- from which smoke was visible at times from as far as La Vernia -- was reported at approximately 6 p.m. July 29.

Firefighters from Stockdale, La Vernia, Poth, and Floresville have been joined by commissioners from precincts 2, and 4 on the private property near C.R. 312 in the fight against the fire. Deputies from the Wilson County Sheriff's Office also have responded to the scene, where an unknown number of acres are ablaze.

According to Wilson County Fire Marshal Edwin Baker, the fire still was not under control as of 7:15 p.m.
