Marble Falls, Tx.,(Aug. 5, 2015)

Wait for it........wait for it.....

It won't be long now until the calm and silence on Lake Marble Falls is shattered by the screaming, high-powered motors of the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series. For the 24th year the Lake LBJ/Marble Falls Chamber of Commerce will transform the area into a “liquid quarter mile” for racers, teams and fans to enjoy the racing and festivities.

Much like it's on-land brothers, the series brings in multiple classes of competition in to compete over the three-day event.

The heavy hitters of the sport, the Top Fuel Hydros, feature 8,000 horse power, nitromethane fueled beasts covering the course in less than four seconds in a 1,000'. The Eddie Knox owned, Problem Child boat is the current elapsed time holder with a 3.396 pass right here in Marble Falls during the 2011 race. David Kirkland's Spirit of Texas has the current speed record at 263.250 set earlier this year in Arizona.

Little brothers to the Top Fuel Hydros are the Top Alcohol Hydros. Running on methanol(alcohol) these boats are a bit smaller, lighter and put out about 3,000 horsepower. Bob Pizza's, What a Tomato boat, is the current record with both ends, 4.322(2011) at 210.438mph(2013).

Next in line are the Top Alcohol Flat Bottoms. Using a similar power plant to the Top Alcohol Hydros the boats run a flat hull, plus a steering rudder and guide plate for control.

Now the index classes begin.
Pro Outlaw; These are basically Pro Modifieds running 1,000' instead of the full quarter mile on a 5.50 index.
Pro Modifieds(7.00); Features a wide array of designs, motor combinations and try to run as close to the 7.00 index as possible.

Pro Eliminator(Dial in); These can be any of the following competition classes running against one another on a 'dial in' set by the driver. Go too fast, you break out, too slow, good chance of getting beat.

Quick Eliminator(6.00), Top Eliminator(9.00), Modified Eliminator(10.00), Stock Eliminator(11.00), River Racer(dial in) and two categories of Personal Watercraft complete the classes running in the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series

The action kicks off Friday with an open test-n-tune session starting at 8:00am. At 12:30pm they have a round of qualifying scheduled. The evening is capped off by a Show-n-Shine(approx. 6:00pm) with the Top Fuel boats firing up at dusk and a concert in Johnson Park by Allen Ray and the Southern Comfort Band.

A full slate of qualifying begins Saturday around 8:00am for the Sportsman classes with the Pro Classes set for 10:30am and 3:00pm. Later in the evening Texas KGB plays in Johnson Park(8:00pm)

Eliminations kick off bright and early Sunday morning with the Pro Outlaws and Pro Modifieds firing off at 9:00am. Sportsman eliminations follow with the big boys in the Pro Classes hitting the course around 10:30am.
