S.H. 97 between Floresville and Stockdale was reopened to traffic just before 9 a.m., following a major crash involving two vehicles about 7:25 a.m. today.

The drivers and sole occupants of a Chevrolet 2500 van and a 2012 Kia Sorrento were transported to San Antonio-area medical facilities via AirLife helicopters, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Cpl. Javier Reyes at the scene.

According to Reyes, eyewitnesses said the van, driven by 20-year-old Vance Salazar of Hondo, veered from the westbound lane into the opposite lane. Cindy Villa, 28, of San Antonio, traveling eastbound, took evasive action. This prevented the collision from being head-on, Reyes said.

Traffic on the highway was closed in both directions temporarily, to allow AirLife to land. The highway was reopened to traffic shortly before 9 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.

As of 9 a.m. Texas Department of Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol troopers and members of the Wilson County Sheriff's Office, Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department, and two towing services remain on the scene of a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 7:25am today on SH 97 near CR 307.

The occupants of a Chevrolet 2500 van & a Kia Sorrento were transported by AirLife to San Antonio medical facilities. There were no fatalities. Watch for more information as it becomes available.
