Police in Floresville are urging vigilance after a resident reported receiving a telephone call Oct. 5 between 6:30-7:30 p.m. about an unpaid water bill.

According to Sgt. Daria Fowler of the Floresville Police Department, the caller said a check had been “reversed.” The resident was told that unless he wired more than $800 to an account number the caller furnished, his water would be shut off.

Fowler said that no one from Floresville City Hall would call residents at that hour. Those who receive similar calls should not provide any personal information or account numbers.

“My suggestion is to try to get a name and a phone number, and contact police to make a report immediately!" Fowler said.
