Compared to last report: All hay traded steady to firm this week. Trade activity and demand were moderate. In the Panhandle and West Texas, nice temperatures and recent rains have livestock and pastures in good condition. Alfalfa prices holding firm as freight continues to play a factor as dairies are having to travel to find the higher quality hay. East and North Texas remain in a drought and some producers raised their prices on small coastal Bermuda bales. Supplemental feeding of livestock has already begun in those areas and will keep supplies tight. Also the freight cost of hauling coastal Bermuda to the Panhandle is difficult when competing with other varieties of hay. Prices for hay and pellets quoted per ton except where noted. . . .
