Can you identify this plant? Send your best guess to Plant ID, Wilson County News, 1012 C St., Floresville, TX 78114, or email it to nkilbey-smith@wcn-online.com, with “Plant ID” in the subject line. Please include a daytime phone number where you can be reached.

To be eligible for the $25 gift certificate from Clear Fork Creek Farm & Nursery in Nixon, your correct entry must arrive by Monday at 9 a.m. following the photo’s issue date. In the case of more than one correct answer, a drawing will determine the prizewinner.

Bobby & Diane Marsh of La Vernia are the winners of the Jan. 6 Plant ID contest, which was particularly challenging. They correctly identified tropical milkweed, asclepias curassavica, also known as Mexican milkweed, Mexican butterfly weed, and bloodflower, from the photo. The two win a gift certificate from Color Me Green Nursery in Floresville.

The Plant ID Contest will be published each week, leading up to the Wilson County Garden Day on Saturday, March 5, at the Floresville Independent School District Alternative Education Center. Look for more on this event in a coming issue of the Wilson County News.
