Floresville Mayor Sherry Castillo has withdrawn the criminal trespass warning she requested Feb. 5, barring former Councilman Eric Rodriguez from City Hall.

In a letter to Floresville police Chief Lorenzo Herrera dated Feb. 8, the mayor said she verbally withdrew her complaint the day after the warning was issued, “in the interest of bringing harmony to our community and ... moving forward with appropriate public dialogue... .”

Former Floresville City Councilman Eric Rodriguez has been banned from City Hall.

Rodriguez, who served on the council until last November when his term expired, was served by the Floresville Police Department with a criminal trespass warning earlier today. According to the warning, Rodriguez is forbidden from Floresville City Hall, 1120 D St. The warning, does not list an end date, nor is a complainant named.

The former councilman was outspoken during the Feb. 4 city council meeting, pressing for answers regarding a recall petition he's spearheaded against Mayor Sherry Castillo and councilmen Daniel Tejada and Juan Ortiz. Castillo ordered a Floresville police officer to ensure Rodriguez, a local businessman, left the meeting.

"This is the second time he has misbehaved," Castillo said, when asked to comment on the warning. "He was rude to the city attorney and the council. I asked him not to be disturbing the meetings any more. ... He knows how to act like an adult. That's no way to conduct city business. He knows better."

"Mayor Castillo is going above and beyond to suppress the voice of the people," Rodriguez told the Wilson County News, when asked about the criminal trespass warning.

Castillo said the ban is merited.

"We should have zero tolerance for this type of behavior," she said.
She professed to be unaware that the warning prohibits Rodriguez from going to City Hall, which could prevent him going to pay a utility bill or file paperwork for his businesses. "He can pay the bill through the window," she said.

Asked about the duration of the ban, she responded, "I asked for him to be restricted while I am in office."

As Castillo was appointed last November to succeed Mayor Diana Garza, who resigned, the ban could last for years, if she seeks election after completing her appointed term.

And at last night meeting, it was none other than Councilman Tejada who was asking about racial slurs ... how ironic!

I can answer Danny's question.. indeed we have heard racial slurs. The night they voted Jim off the council Danny's supporters in the audience were heard chanting "la raza, la raza." For them, it was all about... More ›

What Castillo should have done last night is recuse herself from that vote.It still would have been a tie. But then again, Tejeda and Ortiz shouldn't have voted on this either. Of course they aren't going to approve a recall... More ›

I agree with Jim Miller in that this is not over. Last night's meeting was a stunning example of the abuse of powers and positions. Ms. Castillo slipped up last night and called Danny Tejada "Mayor Tejada." Perhaps... More ›
