The 2015-20 Dietary Guidelines for Americans do not include “sustainable diets,” and the proposal to reduce red meat -- such as beef -- from the diet was taken out of the final version. Some environmentalists promoting sustainable diets offered arguments, such as “beef was the single food with the greatest projected impact on the environment.” Another was “sustainable diets ... provide food security for the present population while sustaining human and natural resources for future generations.” . . .
