Judge Dick Alcala of San Antonio has ruled a writ of mandamus regarding the petition to recall Floresville Mayor Sherry Castillo and councilmen Juan Ortiz and Daniel Tejada is premature.

He did add, however, that the Floresville City Council must continue to follow the steps specified in the city charter and call for a special recall election for May 7.

“Make sure they order the election [at the council meeting] on March 10 or we’ll be right back here,” he said to City Attorney Chris Hugg.

The next step in the recall procedure is a public hearing, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight.
