According to election officials in Wilson County, 2,873 cast ballots during the 10-day early-voting period ahead of the March 1 primary election.

This translates to slightly less than 10 percent of the county’s 29,491 registered voters. Of those, 2,401 were Republican Party ballots, and 472 were Democrat.

Karnes County reported an even higher turnout, with 954 of its 7,716 registered voters -- more than 12 percent -- casting early ballots. Democrat ballots totaled 424, with 301 for the Republican Party.

Polls close at 7 p.m.
