The race shop of NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team ThorSport Racing in Sandusky, Ohio, caught fire in the early hours of Monday morning. Later Monday morning, the race team issued the following statement:

"Shortly after midnight on Monday morning, a fire broke out in the basement of the ThorSport Racing shop, located in Sandusky, Ohio. At this time, we can confirm that no one was injured. We are currently working with the fire department and local officials to contain the blaze and assess the damage. We do not expect this to impact the team's competition schedule. Our next race is at Iowa Speedway in Newton on Saturday, June 18. Further details with be forthcoming."

Firefighters were able to save a total of 15 racing trucks or chassis, three of those still loaded in transporters that also were saved, according to a report by NBC Sports. Meanwhile three race trucks were destroyed by fire, and another was destroyed as it was under water in the basement of the race shop. About a quarter of the 100,000 sq. ft. building was destroyed.

According to the NBC report, firefighters battled the fire until about 4:45 p.m. ET Monday. Nineteen units from four area communities aided in the efforts. Perkins Township Fire Department Captain Jim Johnson said rubber decking on the roof continuing to burn was the reason for the fire burning so long. The fire originated in the basement of the shop.

ThorSport is the longest-tenured team in the Camping World Truck Series. In 2016 it fields four Toyota Tundras for two-time Truck Series champion Matt Crafton, Rico Abreu, Ben Rhodes and Cameron Hayley. Both of Crafton's series titles in 2013 and 2014 came from behind the wheel of ThorSport's No. 88 entry. He also is the current series championship points leader heading into Saturday's race at Iowa Speedway. Crafton has two race wins in the first seven races of the 2016 season.
