Applications for a place on the Nov. 8 ballot are being accepted through Aug. 22. There are places on several area city councils and at least one local school board. Register your intent to run for office at the relevant city hall or school administration office.

Applications in Floresville are being accepted to fill not three, but four council places, following the resignation recently of Place 3 Councilman Johnny Ray Nieto; a move to San Antonio prompted his resignation. Also on the ballot are seats currently held by Mayor Sherry Castillo and councilmen Juan Ortiz, Place 2, and Daniel Tejada, Place 1.

Three trustee positions are on the ballot in the East Central Independent School District -- District 3, currently held by John Massengale; District 4, incumbent Victor Garza; and District 6, held by Claudia Barrientos.

Residents of the city of Sandy Oaks can apply to fill the positions of mayor, currently held by Micki Ball, and alderman Place 2 and Place 4, held by Douglas Tomasini and Melissa Matehuala, respectively.

Watch for updates on these elections in coming issues of the Wilson County News.
