Faults with the Floresville Event Center’s fire-suppression system prompted a fire safety inspector to red-tag the system two weeks ago, but these issues will be corrected in the next few days, according to Floresville City Manager Henrietta Turner.
Starfire Sprinkler Systems of San Antonio inspected the system July 25, and found a number of faults that raised concerns. The center just hosted a signature area event on Aug. 6, the Consolata Healthcare Foundation Denim & Diamonds Casino Night, which packed the ballroom of the facility.
Among the items cited:
•Fire pump with a dry drip bowl and buried packing, possibly seized.
•Sprinkler heads improperly placed
•Missing head wrenches in the pump room
•Drops misplaced for the height of the ceiling
•Water motor and gong test unsatisfactory
•Condition of piping, drain valves, check valves, open sprinklers, and other items unsatisfactory.
According to the inspection report, fire pumps, gravity tanks, reservoirs, and pressure tanks are not in good condition and properly maintained. Fire department connections are not in satisfactory condition.
Starfire Sprinkler Systems will be on site within the next few days, Turner said, and anticipates the issues will be remedied by Aug. 16. She could not confirm the amount for repairs, estimated in the region of $10,000.
