Doris May Heath Opiela, 72, of Falls City, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, in the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin. Doris was born on Jan. 14, 1944, in San Antonio to James and Maxine Steele Heath.

She graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a bachelor’s degree in science. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who loved gardening and plants, looking out the window and watching her cows, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gretchen.

Doris is survived by her husband of 52 years, Chester Lee Opiela, whom she married on May 23, 1964; her daughter, Jennifer Ratliff and husband Robert of Falls City; grandchildren Cole, Cade, and Curt Ratliff of Falls City; brother Kent Steele and wife Linda of Johnson City; and sister Delores Schriver and husband Rick of Poteet.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 8:30-9:30 a.m. with a rosary recited at 9:30 a.m. in the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cestohowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the church.

The family held a reception in the CCD hall following the Mass.

A private cremation service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
