The National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio has issued a flood warning for the San Antonio River near Elmendorf and Floresville, affecting Bexar and Wilson counties.

Moderate flooding is forecast for the Elmendorf area. At 8:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, the stage was 24.1 feet. Flood stage is 35.0 feet.

The river is expected to rise above moderate flood stage by 1 p.m. Monday afternoon before cresting near 47 feet around 7 p.m. Monday evening. It is possible that the river could crest to near or even above major flood stage of 48 feet. Moderate lowland flooding inundates crop and pastureland below San Antonio to below Floresville. Roads and bridges in the flood plain are flooded.

A flood warning for the San Antonio River near Floresville has been issued for Tuesday, Sept. 27, through Wednesday night or until the warning is canceled.

The stage was 6.3 feet Monday morning. Flood stage is 27.0 feet. Minor flooding is forecast. The river is expected to rise to above flood stage by 10 a.m. Tuesday due to routed flow before cresting near 32 feet around 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.

The river is expected to fall back below flood stage by 3 p.m. on Wednesday

Secondary roads near the flood plain may become flooded and impassable. Extensive flooding occurs in lowest portions of Floresville River Park.

All persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest forecasts, and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect life and property. River stage forecasts are based on observed rainfall along with predicted rain for the next 12 hours.

Do not drive automobiles through flooded areas. Remember, 18 inches of water or less can carry away most vehicles, including trucks. If you see flood waters or come upon a flooded roadway, remember to turn around and do not drown.
