NASCAR Camping World Truck Series chase driver John Hunter Nemechek was fourth in the points standings after the Sept. 24 race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but on Thursday, the driver dropped to seventh in the standings as a result of a 10-point penalty issued by NASCAR. The penealty was issued because Nemechek’s No. 8 Chevrolet didn’t meet NASCAR’s post-race height requirements. His NEMCO Motorsports team also lost 10 owner points, and crew chief Gere Kennon was fined $6,000 and placed on probation through the end of the year.

With his points tally adjusted to reflect the deduction, Nemechek trails Daniel Hemric, the final driver in the chase, by 15 points heading into Saturday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Counting the LVMS race, two races remain before the first elimination.

The other penalty issued after the Truck Series race at New Hampshire was a reduction of practice time for the No. 50 MAKE Motorsports team of Travis Kvapil. The penalty will be paid Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in preparation for the race there Saturday evening. Kvapil will be docked 15 minutes of practice time as a result of his truck failing pre-race template inspection four times at New Hampshire.

NASCAR also issued written warnings to several Sprint Cup and Xfinity series teams for inspection issues coming out of Sept. 24 and 25 races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (Cup) and Kentucky Speedway.

At the Sprint Cup level, the No. 7 Tommy Baldwin Racing chevrolet team of Regan Smith received a written warning for failing pre-race laser inspection twice. The No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota team of Denny Hamlin was warned for twice failing pre-qualifying template inspection.

Smith’s team also was among the Sprint Cup teams receiving warning for twice failing pre-qualifying laser inspection, along with the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet team of Kevin Harvick, the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet team of Kasey Kahne, the No. 16 Roush Fenway Racing Ford team of Greg Biffle and the No. 83 BK Racing Toyota team of Matt DiBenedetto.

In the Xfinity Series, the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota team with Matt Tifft as its driver at Kentucky, and the No. 51 Chevrolet team of Jeremy Clements received written warnings for two failures in pre-race laser inspection.
