Mark John Costanzi
Mark John Costanzi, 49, passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, after a sudden illness. He was born Sept. 22, 1967, in San Antonio, Texas.
Mark was a 1985 graduate of John Marshall High School. Among many of his activities and accomplishments, Mark played tennis, coached volleyball, acted in theater, and was an officer of his class and president of Future Business Leaders of America. One notable honor was when his intellect, personality, and passion for the theater resulted in his selection to attend American actor Hugh O’Brian’s Youth Leadership state seminar. Mark graduated No. 5 out of 752 in his senior class and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed.”
He followed his love of acting and earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications and theatre from the University of Notre Dame (’89) and a Master of Fine Arts from DePaul University (’92), where he graduated magna cum laude and cum laude, respectively. Mark loved the stage and performed in many productions throughout his life but also wrote, directed, and produced countless plays and musicals. His talents afforded him to work in theater, television, and film while residing in Chicago, London, New York, and California. In 1997, Mark put down roots in Los Angeles. He obtained his realtor’s license in 2004 and was ranked one of the top 11 percent of agents in Los Angeles home sales. He had just received his Texas Real Estate license.
Last year Mark returned to Texas to be closer to family and friends, where he lived in St. Hedwig with his beloved mother, Marcella “Marcy,” with whom he had a very special bond. He was a funny, loving, kind, and extremely loyal friend as well as being the most non-judgmental person you could ever meet. Mark was an excellent chef that loved to host dinner parties, and his smile lit up the room. He was loved by so many and will be missed by those he met over the many facets of his life, said his family.
He was preceded in death by his stepbrother, Paul Ramzinski.
Mark is survived by his loving mother, Marcella Ramzinski; stepfather Greg Ramzinski Sr.; father Dr. John Costanzi; stepbrother Gregory Ramzinski Jr. and family; his devoted godmother, Barbara Kelly; many loving cousins in the Pennsylvania and New York/New Jersey area; people who loved and claimed him as part of their own family; and his beloved dogs, Max and Hannah.
Visitation was held on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.
A funeral Mass was held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig.
Memorial donations may be made in Mark’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.Stjude.org, or help a Shih Tzu or pug at www.RescueMe.Org.
