The job of the District Attorney is to achieve justice, and vigorously prosecute cases investigated by law enforcement -- not to serve as a figurehead. As a career prosecutor, I have devoted my 15-year legal career to fighting for victims. As your D.A., I will continue working hard both in and out of the courtroom to keep our community safe.

The problems plaguing our community are drugs, child molestation, murders, and property crimes. While the current D.A. focuses his efforts elsewhere, the number of child sexual abuse cases in our community continues to soar. These young victims have to wait years before going to court, which prolongs the healing process. We continue to have cases taking too long to get tried, and even worse, unsolved murders. These are all things the D.A. is responsible for overseeing.

Our current D.A. has not tried a case in over a decade. That is not a D.A. fighting for justice in our district. He has decided to devote taxpayer money and resources to human trafficking. According to Wilson County District Clerk records, there are no human trafficking cases in Wilson County. As your district attorney, I will focus on our community’s issues, and make our community safe.

I plan to improve the District Attorney’s Office by making it fiscally responsible. Under the current administration, the D.A’.s Office has doubled its employees, increased the budget from $443,000 to $1.49 million-plus, and yet is prosecuting one-third fewer cases, although crime has not decreased. I plan to re-evaluate each position; if determined to be ineffective, resources will be redirected to provide better services to crime victims. I will aggressively prosecute cases in a timely way.

I, Audrey Gossett Louis, will work hard to protect each and every member of our community, and I humbly ask for your vote.

The Wilson County News will provide a Candidates Forum in the print edition Oct. 26. In an effort to provide voters with information earlier, the Wilson County News is publishing candidate information as it is received.

Pena has ignored way to much of what has gone on in Floresville, literally 100 feet from his front door. Vote Audrey!
