The biggest issue is combating individuals who prey upon our children, family, and businesses, committing serious and violent crimes without conscience, especially individuals involved in organized crime, cartels, gangs, and drug dealing. A direct correlation exists between these criminal groups, whose only goal is increasing profits regardless of the devastation caused, and most crimes committed in our communities. As I’ve explained to the House and Senate Committees, these criminal groups do not follow the law as law enforcement must. They have the will and resources to horrendously impact our communities. They have now expanded into human sex trafficking and smuggling, increasing their profits while destroying young lives.

It takes someone with experience, knowledge, and courage to face these individuals head-on. I’ve served as your district attorney for 12 years, with a tested and proven record of leadership. To combat spill-over border violence, I initiated the creation of the Border Prosecution Unit (BPU) in partnership with Gov. Perry and the Legislature. Within our district, the BPU has helped take down drug dealers, human traffickers, and gang leaders. Today, Gov. Abbott has made the BPU a central part of his plan to secure the border.

Trusted by Republicans and Democrats alike, appointed by Gov. Perry to serve on the Violent Gang Task Force, I serve as chairman and am a member of the Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force.

To strengthen prosecution of child-abuse cases and aid in the healing of our most vulnerable victims, I founded the Children’s Alliance of South Texas in 2012. Further, I created a Human Trafficking Unit in my office; to date, 17 girls have been recovered through our efforts and partnerships. As my record shows, I am deeply committed to the security and safety of the people in this district and the State of Texas.

The Wilson County News will provide a Candidates Forum in the print edition Oct. 26. In an effort to provide voters with information earlier, the Wilson County News is publishing candidate information as it is received.

It is hard to stop the corruption when it includes top officials including the DA. Even an election may not stop it without State or Federal oversight. Are Federal officials supervising the election in Floresville??

Paula Kothmann Preston- I mean (Stop The Corruption) what interest do you have in this election? Yes you're from Pearsall, but you currently live in Austin. I'm just curious why someone as yourself has so much interest.

I agree wholeheartedly that organized crime should be prosecuted vigorously, yet rampant illegal gambling and its associated money laundering suggest that human trafficking continues, possibly by those already convicted. Mr.... More ›
