An expert panel will discuss the changing state of rural affairs at the Opening General Session of the 137th annual Cattle Raisers Convention. Also, an information session devoted to the effects of the Affordable Care Act on ranching families is set for Saturday, April 5, in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in downtown San Antonio.
John Sharp, chancellor, Texas A&M University System, is among the panelists who will focus on key issues that directly impact the lives and businesses of ranchers and landowners. This session is slated for 10 a.m.
“Water demands, energy development, a growing population, changing financial and economic pressures, and the continued loss of rural representation are just a few issues that have caused ranchers and landowners to take a hard look at our future,” said Pete Bonds, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association president. “It’s important for us to know how to navigate all the challenges.”
An information session devoted to the effects of the Affordable Care Act on ranching families is scheduled for Saturday at 8 a.m.
Austin King, M.D., president of the Texas Medical Association, will talk with ranchers about the parts of the law that will affect their businesses and families as well as take questions.
These sessions are part of the 137th annual Cattle Raisers Convention and Expo set for April 4-6.
