Feral hog workshop in Floresville
FLORESVILLE -- A Feral Hog Management Workshop will be held Friday, May 31, from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Floresville Event Center located at 600 S.H. 97 W. in Floresville.
The workshop is presented by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Wilson and Karnes counties. The cost of $10 includes a catered lunch, and preregistration is required.
Five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units -- two general, two integrated pest management, and one laws and regulations -- for commercial, non-commercial, and private applicators are available to attendees.
Workshop registration begins at 8 a.m.
Presenters and topics include:
•Basic biology of feral swine and feral hogs in the Lower San Antonio River watershed and feral hog safety and disease concerns by Jared Timmons, AgriLife Extension associate based in San Marcos.
•Population dynamics of feral hogs by Dr. Roel Lopez, AgriLife Extension wildlife specialist.
•Laws and regulations for hunting feral hogs by a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game warden.
•Agricultural regulations regarding feral hogs by Vick Alexander of the Texas Department of Agriculture.
•Feral hog control by John Calentine of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services.
•Feral hog research update by Matt Reidy of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
To ensure an adequate meal count and handouts, attendees are requested to preregister by 5 p.m. Friday, May 24, through the AgriLife Extension office in Wilson or Karnes county.
