The honeymoon is officially over for the Obama Administration now that 39 Democratic Congressmen are defecting on the health care law. According to the Wall Street Journal, “More than three dozen House Democrats rebuffed a White House veto threat and backed a Republican plan to change the health-care law.” Even former President Clinton is joining the criticism. Why the sudden turn on President Obama’s signature legislation by his own political party? Politics is finally reflecting public opinion.

The president’s “Affordable Care Act,” now commonly referred to as “ObamaCare,” is anything but affordable. Down in the Lone Star state, the Obama Administration is forcing Texans to cover the cost of the health care mandate with both their tax dollars and their constitutional freedoms.

On “Meet the Press,” recently Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was grilled on the administration’s broken ObamaCare promises. Pelosi insisted there’s nothing that needs to be fixed about the president’s health care law. But Americans aren’t buying it. Opinion polls tracked Obama’s approval rating at a mere 39 percent. In addition, his favorability rating, which is based on how much people listen to what he says simply because they like him, dove to 41 percent, as reported by the National Review Online.

Clearly, Americans are fed up with all of Obama’s misleadings and failed promises.

For example, President Obama promised Americans that our current insurance provisions would not be affected by the Affordable Care Act. He forgot to tell us that our premiums were an exception to his rule. In fact, ObamaCare’s premium rates have skyrocketed and are hitting “red states” like Texas the hardest. Fox News reported that in red states, premiums for 27-year-olds rose an average of 78 percent on the ACA’s exchanges, whereas in “blue states” that voted for Obama, premiums rose a smaller 50 percent.

Another failed promise, according to the Obama Administration, would no longer prevent patients from being turned down for coverage because “health care is not a privilege, it’s a right.”

Yet, I received a letter from Whitney, a 26 year old Texas mother with Multiple Sclerosis. ObamaCare has left her worse off even though she has pre-existing conditions. Her former insurance policy, which she called “a blessing from God,” was canceled because her plan doesn’t conform to the Affordable Care Act. The termination letter directed her to Healthcare.gov to find a new plan. Whitney quickly looked for a solution only to discover that under ObamaCare she will go from paying $325 to over $1,000 per month for health care coverage.

Families, too, are suffering under the health care law, because of a hidden “marriage” penalty. Reports show that married couples earning more than $62,000 annually, and cumulatively, will not qualify for premium subsidies under ObamaCare. “Yet, the same unmarried couples living together who earns up to $91,920 annually will qualify.”

According to a study by Concerned Women for America’s Beverly LaHaye Institute, titled, “Obamanomics,” married couples will also be forced to pay a $10,000 annual penalty and could pay over $200,000 during the course of their marriage.

Obama also touted exemptions for churches and religious organizations. What he forgot to mention was that under ObamaCare, his administration has full authority to determine -- on impulse, mind you -- which faith-based charities are worthy of a “religious” exemption and which is not.

This year, Texas passed one of the most pro-life laws in the country, in the face of fierce abortion proponents from across the country. The states’ faith-based, pro-life charities, companies, colleges, and individuals are suffering under the fierce “contraception” mandate, which requires individuals and private companies to violate their beliefs and provide controversial contraception, sterilizations, and abortifacients.

Criswell College is fighting to protect its First Amendment rights. The private Christian university located in Dallas has filed suit against the Obama Administration, citing:

The mandate requires us to violate our religious beliefs by forcing us to fund something that is contrary to the Biblical values we stand for. We feel betrayed that the government is trying to use the force of law to make us change our religious beliefs and practice by forcing us to fund the taking of innocent life.

Texas’ future under ObamaCare is clear: citizens will either pay costly premiums or crippling fines. Clearly, it is ObamaCare that must be deemed unworthy and unconstitutional, not our freedoms.
