Eat breakfast, repair a roof for families in need
Community members enjoy a past Cowboy Breakfast to benefit the Wilson Area Housing Foundation. This year’s event is April 26.
This series profiles area organizations that help meet needs in our communities.
Organization: Wilson Area Housing Foundation
What it does: The foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity, repairs or rehabilitates the homes of Wilson County-area families with school-aged children living in badly deteriorated homes.
Formalized in June 2000, the foundation works with families referred through local school district counselors or social service officers to create healthy living conditions and provide stability for future generations.
The organization’s founders believe that children in badly deteriorated homes lacking basic necessities may lack motivation to learn, as the environment inhibits quality of life and produces stressful situations. Many children in such circumstances, according to information from the Wilson Area Housing Foundation, may lack concentration, suffer from excessive absences, have problems doing homework, and more, due to their home environment.
The foundation aims to improve the physical living conditions of impoverished families with school-aged children in such circumstances.
Events, fund-raisers: The primary source of funding for the Wilson Area Housing Foundation is its annual Rosenberg/Rotter Cowboy Breakfast. This event, set for Saturday, April 26, features a hearty all-you-can-eat breakfast of pancakes, sausage, eggs, potatoes, coffee, and juice. Live and silent auctions also are scheduled, with all proceeds benefiting the foundation. This year’s event will take place on the grounds of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, at the corner of Trail and Third streets in Floresville, starting at 7:30 a.m.
How you can help: Participate in the fund-raiser by enjoying breakfast, or donating items for the auctions. Sponsorships are available.
