FLORESVILLE -- Defense was the theme of the night last Thursday when the junior varsity Tiger football team opened district play at home against the McCollum Cowboys.

The Tigers played a physical, punishing style of defense led by C.J. Felux, Sebastian Rodriguez, Carlos Cruz, Tony Grimaldo, Lorenzo Neaves, Alex Rodriguez, Dillon Gaither, Joshia Ramirez, and Jesus Carrizales. The Tiger offense was able to move the ball, but was unable to get any points on the board.

The score was tied at 0-0 with about five minutes left in the game when the Tiger defense created another turnover, as Luke Smith, who was in the right place at the right time, picked up the ball and ran it in for the score from about 30 yards out. This was the second week in a row Smith scored on defense. Aaron Balles booted the extra point, and the final score stood at 7-0.

It was another hard-fought game and another scrappy win for the junior varsity Tigers, who are now 3-1 on the year and 1-0 in district play.
