SUTHERLAND SPRINGS -- Preliminary indications are that a man whose body was found June 24 on the banks of the Cibolo Creek off F.M. 539 here was the victim of a drowning, said Wilson County Sheriff Joe D. Tackitt Jr.

The identity of the man is yet unknown, but Tackitt said he is believed to have been homeless and was seen swimming in the area with others the day before. The man had been seen around the area in recent days.

In addition to sheriff’s deputies, members of the Texas Rangers and firefighters from Stockdale and La Vernia responded to the scene.
