Tango Blast gang member has ties to Pasadena, Wharton County and Matamoros, Mexico

AUSTIN -- The reward for Javier Cortez Jr., 32, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive and this month’s featured fugitive, has increased to $15,000 for information leading to his capture if the tip comes in during the month of July. Texas Crime Stoppers tips are guaranteed to be anonymous.

Investigators believe the Tango Blast gang member wanted for murder may be living in Matamoros, Mexico, under an assumed name. Investigators are currently working to ascertain what aliases Cortez may be using. If a tipster provides information that leads to an arrest, the reward will be paid even if he is captured in Mexico.

Cortez is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 142 pounds. He has previously been seen in Wharton County in the El Campo area, including Danevang. His last known address was in Pasadena, where he has family and children living in the area.

The 2010 Harris County murder charge stems from a robbery in which an accomplice shot the 29-year-old victim twice, and Cortez allegedly stood over the victim and shot him nine more times. The accomplice has been arrested, but Cortez has eluded capture. He is also wanted for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution by federal authorities in addition to the Homicide warrant.

For more information on Cortez, view his wanted poster at: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/Texas10MostWanted/featured.aspx.

One offender from the Texas 10 Most Wanted Program is featured each month in hopes the higher reward money from the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division will generate additional tips. The higher reward amount will only be paid if the tip comes in the same month the fugitive is featured.

Anyone with information can provide anonymous tips in four different ways:
Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
Text the letters DPS--followed by your tip--to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.
Submit a web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture.
Submit a Facebook tip at http://www.facebook.com/texas10mostwanted by clicking the “SUBMIT A TIP” link (under the “About” section).

All calls, texts, e-mails and Facebook messages are anonymous.

Texas Crime Stoppers, which is funded by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division, offers cash rewards to any person who provides information that leads to the arrest of one of the Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitives or sex offenders ( http://www.dps.texas.gov/texas10mostwanted/).

Do not attempt to apprehend these fugitives; they are considered armed and dangerous.
