D.O.G.S. on the LV Primary campus
WATCH D.O.G.S. member Wade Gulley and daughters Quinn and Keagan learn about the new program at La Vernia Primary School.
D.O.G.S. at school? Yes. Dads of Great Students are on the campus of La Vernia Primary School. WATCH D.O.G.S. is an innovative father-involvement, educational initiative of the National Center for Fathering. The two primary goals of the program are to provide positive male role models for the students and to provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
During the day, members may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow, and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their students, but other students as well.
The WATCH D.O.G.S. program has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and has been involved in the U.S. Department of Education’s Partnership for Family Involvement and the Department’s Safe School Summit.
