Help Wanted

ON-CALL CRISIS POOL WORKERS NEEDED. Part-time positions are available for after hours “on-call” crisis workers to respond to mental health crisis for Wilson and Karnes Counties. Duties include crisis interventions, assessments, referrals to stabilization services, and referrals for involuntary treatment services according to the Texas Mental Health Laws. You must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, nursing, etc. On-call hours are from 5 p.m.-8 a.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays vary. If selected, you must attend required training and must be able to report to designated safe sites within 1 hour of request for assessment. Compensation is at a rate of $200 per week plus $100 per completed and submitted crisis assessment, and mileage. If interested call Camino Real Community Services, 210-357-0359.

LV Primary to hold Early Childhood Fair

Parents of preschoolers and preschool children are invited to the fourth annual Early Childhood Fair to be held in the cafeteria of the La Vernia Primary School on Tuesday, April 30, from 6-7 p.m. The school is located at 249 F.M. 1346 S. in La Vernia.

The fair will feature the Mighty Bear Band, cafeteria and bus tours, cheerleaders, and the opportunity for parents to register their child for pre-k or kindergarten.

Pre-k students must be 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2013. Kinder students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2013. Items needed at the time of registration are: proof of residency within LVISD (current utility bill with physical address), if renting or residing with someone, a residency statement provided by the school along with current proof of residency described above from property owner, child’s birth certificate, immunization record, Social Security card, parent/guardian’s driver license or picture ID, and court orders (if applicable).

To register for pre-k, students must qualify by one of the following:

•Is considered an “English as a second language learner”

•Eligible to participate in the national free or reduced price lunch program. Need one month’s proof of income for the household,

•Is the child a member of the armed forces, including state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty,

•Has ever been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services,

•Is considered eligible for “homeless” status.
