I Was Just Thinking...
Just Thinking: A dog is man’s best friend
September 22, 2012 Well, I wish dogs could talk. My daughter Julie, swears her Jack Russell Terrier, Jack understands every word she says to him. I hear her talking in the next room. When I ask her who she is talking to, she tells me it is Jack. I ask her if he answers, she laughs, and says no, but I think she can read his mind. January 12, 2012 I have always been a sports fan since I was a young girl on the farm. I was athletic (voted most athletic girl my senior year in high school), a tomboy (I could throw a hay bale on the wagon right along with my brothers and daddy). (More) Grammar books were important in my school
November 8, 2011 I was just thinking how reading and writing are so unimportant these days. And especially writing good English, and good grammar seems to not be taught now. I can't remember what grade I was when I learned to diagram sentences. I know it was in grammar school. (More) Remembering other Friday nights
November 1, 2011 Well, last night was a lonely night for me. I remember the days when Friday night football was the highlight of my week...high school football that is. When I was a teenager, then when I was a young married girl and Eddie loved high school sports too, we still went to the high school games, like Robert E. Lee High in San Antonio, who we followed all the way to state one year, going to San Angelo for the Final Game, which Lee lost..that was a sad trip back home!! August 2, 2011 I am remembering other Augusts in my life today. I have always hated the month of August. Especially when we didn't have air-conditioning or even fans because we didn't have electricity. I remember days when I would look out on the heat shimmering on the sidewalks and streets – those days past - years ago, when I would look out and see the corn stalks and peanut bushes wilting and turning yellow in the heat – when the buzzards and chicken hawks would fly around searching for something dead that was in the fields wafting up their awful stench! July 7, 2011 I walked earlier today. It was 6:45 AM when I left the house. The sun was just coming up and it looked blood red. It caused the sky to be a brilliant red. But when I took a picture it appears yellow, and the sky is red. Maybe I need a filter on my camera? I hope the red sky means rain for South Texas. (More) Brush with death is a wake-up call
June 23, 2011 Larry Gray is a 54-year-old ex-Marine who was in Vietnam. His life is wrought with near-death experiences. Larry, who is my niece Lisa’s husband, sat in our living room this week, talking about his life and the brushes with death that he has had. He recently came from the hospital; most it spent in ICU, where he was for two months, having faced another near death experience. This time he says it was a wake-up call for him. June 15, 2011 It is Monday morning. It was a great weekend. TV is boring these days. Mostly I I work on writing on my book about my family history ...the Zooks or the Goodes, or the Evers, or the Brooks, which is Eddie’s mother’s side of the family. That is the most interesting one I think, besides the Zook History. I keep finding new things about the Zooks because the Amish and Mennonites were such an interesting part of American History. Maybe this week, I can get more motivated to write. (More)
