U. S., Mexico Conduct Joint Emergency Response Exercise
July 11, 2014
Federal, state, and local emergency response agencies from the United States and Mexico will conduct a binational, hazardous substance emergency response exercise on July 11 as part of the U.S.- Mexico Joint Contingency Plan. The exercise will take place near the Ysleta/Zaragoza Port of Entry, Mexico side, from 10 - 11 a.m. The exercise will enhance response techniques in the event of a spill or accidental release of hazardous materials along the international border.  (More)
House passes bill to allow VA to fire those tied to wait time

The House today passed HR 4031, a bill that will allow the Veterans Affairs Secretary to remove any career employee tied to the ongoing issues regarding wait times and quality of care at the VA. Under the measure, the VA secretary could remove any such individual from federal service or transfer the individual to another position that the secretary determines is appropriate.  (More)
FBI Director: 2009 Fort Hood Attack Inspired By Al Qaeda

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) questioned FBI director James Comey at a hearing today before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the 2009 terrorist attack at Fort Hood. WASHINGTON– This week, U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) and U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-32) and his colleagues filed an amicus brief and joined a court challenge to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, specifically challenging the legality of that law. The PPACA, which effectively originated as legislation in the Senate, raises revenue through the individual mandate, which violates the Constitutional clause that requires any bill which raises revenue to originate in the House of Representatives.  (More)
