This session provides an overview on how tweens communicate via social networking sites, both positively and negatively. The current trend/misuse of text messages and the implications/issues about "sexting" is addressed. This session is highly interactive and contains relevant videos with real-life scenarios. Sensitive material is addressed as the content is realistic in nature. Adult audiences are recommended and not designed for student assemblies.

The “Best Little Cowboy Gathering in Texas” returns to La Grange Friday and Saturday, March 12-13, to the Fayette County Fairgrounds. The event will include a sanctioned barbecue cook-off, horse clinics, a domino tournament, arts and crafts, chuck wagons, dancing, loads of children’s activities, and plenty of musical entertainment. Cowboy re-enactment “shootouts” will be held throughout the day Saturday. Musical performers include Jett Williams, Darrell McCall, the “Quebe Sisters Band,” Ken Brothers, and more. Funds generated from this sale will support the various patient programs sponsored by the VSC of SASH. The group provides individual birthday and Christmas gifts as well as support the Volunteer Program at the hospital. The All-Faith's Chapel, hospital swimming pool, adolescent sports court, a meditation garden, and shade pavilions are some of the contributions the council has made to the patients and the facility.

The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that 26.2 percent of Americans ages 18 and older (or one in four) has a mental disorder. Of those, 6 percent or one in 17 has a serious mental illness such as major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, or borderline personality disorder.
This free Community Education program is the 9th in the series “Erasing Stigma – Changing Minds”, a free community education series sponsored by the San Antonio State Hospital and the Volunteer Services Council of the San Antonio State Hospital. The goal of this series is to provide information to increase the understanding individuals have about mental illness, available treatments and sources of support available in the San Antonio area. Our speakers have graciously agreed to provide these presentations at no charge to you or the sponsoring organizations. We take this opportunity to publically thank them for their commitment to the patients and communities they serve.
Catherine Hall, Pharm.D. BCPP is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin/ UTHSC/San Antonio and has been a Board Certified Psychiatric Pharmacist since 2002. Dr. Hall joined the professional staff at the San Antonio State Hospital in April of 2006 where she works primarily with Geriatric patients.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Wilson County will take place during the overnight hours of Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2, at Floresville High School’s Eschenburg Field. Relay For Life is a community event that honors cancer survivors, current cancer patients, and caregivers, and also pays tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer. This event is a meaningful way to join with others of the community. Teams are being formed to raise money prior to the event, then come together to camp out overnight. The Bluebonnet Fest is one of the most anticipated events around. All year the La Verna Lions Club sponsors the Miss La Verna Pageant and ends with this festival held at the City Park as the pinnacle. The Carnival will go on all day.
The Queen and her Court lead the Parade, which includes Floats from local and surrounding area businesses, clubs and the like. Classic Car clubs display their cars, there is a Volleyball tournament, Little League has a full slate of games planned and the kids enjoy an day long Carnival, and there will be Arts & Crafts, Food and Drink Booths, Vendor Booths, a Live Auction and a Raffle. The day ends with a Dance under the stars. Proceeds from this event will go to fund our many charitable contributions.

The Park in Comfort
Bluff Creek Classic Cars will host its first “Cruisin’ in Comfort” car show, swap meet, and craft fair Saturday, May 22, in the park in Comfort.
The car show will have a variety of classes, including late models, corvettes, muscle cars, open iron, and street rods.
Trophies, plaques, and ribbons will be awarded to class winners and runners-up, and a people’s choice award will also be given. Car show check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., with judging beginning at 12:30 p.m. A cruise through Comfort will begin at 5 p.m.
The entry fee is $25 at the show, and $15 for those who register before April 30. Half of all entry fees will be donated to the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.
