This is Just and Exercise! Atascosa County Emergency Management is having a disaster exercise at Cowboy Fellowship Church on Feb. 4, 2012 .
We are in need of people to walk through the exercise and pretend to receive antibiotics. We will need participants to arrive at 10:00am and walk through the exercise till 11:00am. The scenario for this exercise: A terrorist has released Anthrax at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo over a three day period.
The CDC and State Health Departments have contacted the surrounding counties and asked them to open their POD sites for dispensing antibiotics for Anthrax exposure. Your help would be greatly appreciated. This is Just and Exercise!

Topics will include analyzing what you have, elements of good design, plants that attract butterflies and how to create a lovely garden space for enjoying your time with butterflies. Calder manages the Greenhouse for Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology at the University of California at Santa Barbara and teaches garden design at Santa Barbara City College. Good Will Industries and the San Antonio Food Bank will be the recipients of the annual "Good Turn" project of the Boy Scouts of America. Local Scouts will be collecting clothing, household goods, and food on Saturday, Feb.4th. Flyers were distributed to neighborhoods in San Antonio and surrounding communities the week before. Donations will be picked up that are left on porches and curbside on that date. Items will then be delivered to Goodwill sites for distribution.
Youth members of the Alamo Area BSA have been doing the project continuously for over 60 years.

Singing Men of South Texas to Present Free Concert at 7pm March 8, 2012
The Singing Men of South Texas will present a free gospel music concert at the Floresville Event Center on March 8, 2012 at 7pm. All are invited to attend and enjoy the variety of gospel music. The Singing Men of South Texas is composed of Ministers of Music and church musicians from churches in South Texas from Georgetown to McAllen and Del Rio to Port Lavaca. Tommy Lyons has been director of the group since 1979. Six other such groups as this go together to form Singing Men of Texas, and are an arm of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Besides doing one concert per month in this area of the state, this group participates in music missions around the world. The group just completed a choir project to Bethlehem, Israel in December 2011 and is looking forward to a project to the Ukraine in September 2012.
The Singing Men will lunch at Jack’s Cafe in Floresville before performing a mini concert at the Tejeda Veterans Home at 12:30pm. The event is being co-hosted by the First Baptist Church of La Vernia, First Baptist Church of Floresville, First Baptist Church of Pleasanton, and First Baptist Church of Kenedy. The choirs from these churches will join the Singing Men for two songs during the concert.
The free concert will begin at 7pm at the Floresville Event Center, 600 Hwy 97W, just west of Floresville on Hwy 97. The Singing Men can be contacted via their website www.SingingMen.org.

The Bluebonnet Fest is one La Vernia and Wilson County’s most anticipated festival and live music events. Each year the La Vernia Lions Club sponsors the event starting with the Miss La Vernia Pageant and ending with the Festival held at the City Park. The newly crowned Miss La Vernia and her Court lead a parade, which includes floats from local and surrounding area businesses, youth organizations and clubs.
