Before this current economic crash, over 40 million Americans did not have health insurance. Now with over 6 million unemployed, many for over 10 months, the number is much higher. I was unemployed in Jan of 09. My insurance under COBRA would have gone from $330 to over $1000 per month. If the stimulus bill did not provide employer reimbursement I would not have health insurance now. As it is one third of my unemployment has to go to pay for this insurance. An minor eye injury in april cost about $400 for 3 doctor visits. With out insurance this would have been a real problem. Shall I send you my bill so you can pay them for me???
