I have been working since I was 16 and am now in my 50's. I have paid taxes all my life. No I am not being subsidized. I am getting my return on my investment. Yes, most federal programs DO work. All programs have some waste. I do not care if it’s the Boy Scouts, your church, or the federal government; it is human nature to help themselves to a little extra. Are you telling me that if a program is not perfect we should dump it? Your arguments are totally illogical. Kathy, you say no government program is a success, and then you tell me that Social Security was not intended to be permanent. You did not say it did not work you just associated the ideas. Social Security is a great success. Is it perfect, no? Could it be improved, yes? If you get rid of it what happens to the people who depend on it? That 80 yr old who worked all his life, paid all his taxes. Has his home paid for, just lives a simple life. You want to tell those people, I am sorry I do not want to support you with my taxes. Go out and beg. Maybe some church will give you a few bucks, or some person down the block may give you a few cans of food. Millions of people, who depend on Social Security, just go away. Medicare? Millions of Americans would be dead if not for Medicare. Is that what TEA day was about, go away. My taxes should not pay for your heart surgery or blood pressure pills. What about federal law that prevents an insurance company from dropping you at renewal because you have an illness. If you have cancer, it is a federal law that prevents that. But no you do not want government to tell business what to do, it interferes with profit. In fact someone else’s premiums are higher because of that person with cancer. Let them die, I want my money. I have more toys to buy, I want that 4 wheeler, that power boat, the huge truck with oversized tires. Bubba, go talk to a doctor, the insurance companies are using their power to control the patient. If the doctor is not willing to take 10 cents on the dollar for their services you cannot see my patients. Doctors have to see 3 patients for e very one they saw 20 years ago to make the same money. Why does the hospital in Floresville not accept the insurance that the town and county employees have? The amount of money the insurance was willing to pay for patient care was below hospital cost.
I have paid taxes for 50 years. You are driving on my roads, my police are protecting you, and my army protects this nation. Where is the constructive conversation? All I hear is NO NO NO. The Constitution was written by people who had very differing ideas. They compromised to come up with a system that would work for all.
