Congrats on being chosen for the 4A Board of Directors to build the community center. I hope you will be just as vigilant and articulate in the board meetings as you have been on the blogs.
I also hope you don't wait until June 1st to become familiar with the responsibilities and expectaions of such an honorable and prestigious position.

Specifically, I hope you, and all the newly appointed board members, begin now to wonder why, as many of us readers do, just why MAYOR TEJADA is in such a hurry to sign the contract with Greco contractors. Would it not be better to let the new board put their names on that dotted line since the new board members will be the ones to actually have to work with the contractors?
Wouldn't it be more prudent and less hasty to give the new board "ownership" and let them have some say in the matter of who the contractor will be?
Shouldn't the new board members at least get to meet a representative of the contractor they will be responsible for working with over the next 365+ days? Since none of the new board members got to take that nice trip to California, or choose the Architect, wouldn't it be fair to let them have SOME say in this deal?
What difference will 2 weeks make?

Just because one contractor appears to be the lowest bid,with the most complete set of numbers, doesn't mean they will do the best job! Remember, we want a building we can be proud of!
Smoke and mirrors are pretty on TV, but in real life.......

Has anyone REALLY checked the references on this Greco company? Who studied the specs? Will they use local sub-contractors/suppliers where feasible? Are there 'sweetheart' deals already cut by the current board members? Has anyone asked about that? Is everyone being as TRANSPARENT as they need to be with my money? My TAXPAYER money? Do you know WHY the charter amendment, limiting council members over-participation on boards, was passed????????
Maybe that answers the question of timing?

I'm with Councilman Morones on this one.....what's the big hurry????
