Mediation Time

As a former worker for the US Federal Government (DoJ) I lived in that world and took advantage of the insurance that was provided to me. I was by no stretch Rich nor wealthy and found the healthcare provided to me to be adequate, and affordable. Which is to say it met the needs of my family in both coverage, and out of pocket costs...
Most government personnel believe it or not fall into that same boat as well, the healthcare provided meets their needs and they are not wealthy nor are they rich. Take a look at their salaries - easy enough to google.
It's true that the government picks up (depending on plan) about 70% of the cost. The company I work for currently picks up 60% of the cost - I'm lucky in that regard.
My coverage in both cases is nearly exactly the same, very small differences. However, the big difference is the total outlay of monies for my current monthly policy ($2,250.00 - family of 5) versus that of what it would be for the government provided ($943.93 - family of 5 - see link below)coverage. I had & currently have Blue Cross & Blue Shield as my provider. For one Month of coverage!!!
I'm lucky, i can still afford to pay even those premiums - tens of millions are not as lucky as I am.

Why the difference - the size of the pool mainly, the larger the pool (public option, single payer) the cheaper the cost, we all know that... Another reason why my coverage is expensive is that my company is also HQ'd in DC - high cost of living area...
There is something fundamentally wrong with the entire scenario that I've just detailed and this is just one of the many reasons why we need healthcare and insurance reform and we need it now! Waiting makes zero sense to me!
There is absolutely no reason that in a country like the United States that this should even be an issue. But it is...
There's no reason why tens of millions of people aren't covered. But they aren't...
There's no reason why people with pre-existing conditions can't get coverage. But they can't...
There's no reason why it should cost significantly more (same coverage) from one job to the next (my case above). But it does...
Reform is going to happen, that is a fact! Things will get better!!! They may not be perfect at first but this is not something that's going to happen over night. This change is going to be phased in which will allow us to get it right, but get it right we will, there is no choice!
