Remember when meals came from "Mom" and not boxes, fast food chains or prepared frozen? About 4 times a year I would help my Mom "can" veggies, meats, jellies and even occasional wine was made. Dad was a commercial fisherman and avid hunter. We had 2 freezers always stocked by my Dad and from my Mom's garden. (tip: kids do not like pulling weeds or plucking feathers!) Sausage making was fun and the smell of meat smoking was intoxicating! If we had a bountiful year...we shared with family and friends. We swapped seafood for perhaps more veggies or used our over abundance to barter. County fair time was looked forward to every year to show off and perhaps trade receipes and craft tips.
