Elaine has touched on some pretty significant items in this commentary.
Experts predicted that a passage of the "Cap and Trade Bill" last year would have caused the average consumer a "MINIMUM" of $1700 extra per year for heating/cooling cost. And, several hundred thousand jobs would have been shipped overseas because the additional cost to industry would greatly curtail their ability to compete with foreign industry. This is not me saying it, but experts that study these type areas.
Every time that someone from Washington tells us to paint our roof white, put more air in our ties, what foods to eat, you and I lose a little bit more of the power to make our own choices. I for one am sick to death of Ms. Lamebama telling schools and restaurants what they need to serve. That is the job of parents and individuals. She needs to mind her own business and her own family and leave the rest of us alone.
Experts in the field of energy indicate that we have a couple hundred years supply of natural gas. Why aren't we developing more supply of natural gas and ways to utilize it in autos, homes, and industry? Nuclear energy is clean and safe. Why aren't we developing more nuclear facilities? Other petroleum experts indicate there is large supplies of petroleum in Alaska and off the Coast of America, but Congress won't let American Companies develop it. It feels like going into the ring to fight the World Heavyweight Champion with one arm tied behind out backs. Also, sick to death of 'tree huggers'...better to have a tree than feed, clothe, cool and heat a human being.
And, I believe it was Spain that wanted to go 'green'...it cost them several hundred thousands of jobs and helped bring down their economy....so much for an example of going green.
We have a whole group of folk in Washington that call themselves Progressives (another name for Socialist and Communist) that want to change our country and our economy to something a little more to their liking. They either forget or don't give a damn that the capitalistic system and our moral values is what has provided one of the highest standards of living in the history of the world and made possible so many thrilling advancements in technology, medicine, space, science. If our Government would get out of the way, the USA could be self-sufficient and even more prosperous within the next 10 years...but, they won't. They want to sit in Washington and run Government by committee slanted toward special interest groups and ideology and damn with people.
Elaine has brought up some very timely and important issues that we are now facing and that will become ever more relevant to everyone's lives.
