Southern Baptist dogma has been pounded into me since I was barely old enough to graduate potty training. Several Baptist preachers come from my family...so, I am pretty well versed on religion. But, even under this submersion in religion, I do not consider myself a religious person. I believe there is a lot of value in religion. It teaches a lot of valuable lessons and gives comfort to many people. I totally respect sincere religious people and have seen the many wonderful things they have accomplished. But, I have to be truthful and say that I just can not bring myself to believe in the "gospel". I believe that "this" is all there is. For one trying to follow the scriptures and do all the things required to get into the Pearly Gates, the journey toward that lofty goal certainly could be fulfilling. But, I just lack the necessary gene to be able to be a real believer. But, I greatly respect those that care enough to try.
