I first met beer in elementary school. I walked into Mr. Vetter's office one afternoon and he handed me a cold can of Schlitz. You know, once you get past the diarrhea and the head aches, Schlitz is a pretty good beer. Well he was sad that I was going to be graduating, going into Junior High and wanted to have a beer with me before I moved on. Funny thing though, all of my former teachers were planning a huge party, one that I was not invited to attend, not sure why, but I get the feeling they were not as fond of me as my good o’l principal. Anyway, we sat there, killed a six pack, reminiscing of our time together. We shared a few laughs and a few tears during that ˝ hour together.

That afternoon was the start of a long relationship that continues to this day. I’m pretty sure Mr. Vetter is dead so its not one of those relationships. I have since moved on to higher quality beers, becoming somewhat of a beer snob. I enjoy the finer beers of the world now, such as Pilsner Urquell, a fantastic Czech beer that I am enjoying right now as I’m typing this message. All I can say is what the great Tom T. Hall used to say and that is “ I like beer. It makes me a jolly good fellow. I like beer. It helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow.”

I look forward to hearing about some of your true loves. And by the way, I love my wife, daughters and soon to be baby boy more than beer. I have plenty of love to go around.
