 		 We CAN be energy independent if the powers that be will let us. We all know about drilling being stopped in the Gulf of Mexico (at least by the US), but now Cuba is stepping in to drill the same gulf waters so I'm sure Obama is very pleased with this new development.

What you may not know is the US has not built an oil refinery in over 20 years (thanks to the 'greenies' who feel the planet should be preserved for animal life, not human life) so the prices are driven up by sending our oil to Europe to be refined and then shipped back. Ridiculous!

We don't import the majority of our oil from the middle east, but from Canada, and newer and more innovative ways to extract oil are being found daily.

By the way, oil and petroleum products are NOT only used for combustion engine lubrication, but is almost ever part of our lives. Plastic products for is one example and here is a link to others:

And here is a very dumb question that no one thinks to ask about hybrid vehicles; an electric car runs on solar power collected in the battery or by plugging it into an electric outlet, but what keep the engine of that electric car lubricated? What parts of those vehicles are built with plastic (another petroleum product).

We're 'drinking the kool-aide' so to speak when we don't make an informative investigation into these things but rely, like children, on what we are told. No wonder we're in so much trouble!
