DeMint Statement on Veto Threat of Cut, Cap & Balance: Democrats Oppose EVER Balancing the Budget

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), made the following statement after President Obama threatened to veto the Cut, Cap & Balance Act and announced his opposition to a balanced budget amendment.

“Democrats are now admitting they will never support balancing the budget because it threatens their reckless spending agenda,” said Senator DeMint. “President Obama says it is an ‘unrealistic goal’ to stop deficit spending over the next decade. He promises to veto the Republican plan to save our credit rating, and instead is asking for a blank check debt to borrow trillions of dollars more. This extreme position puts the President on the wrong side of the American people who are demanding an end to wasteful Washington spending.

“The biggest threat to our economy and to our nation’s future is the reckless debt. Moody’s and S&P have warned they will downgrade America’s credit rating if we raise the debt limit again without serious, long-term reforms to stop borrowing money. Only the Cut, Cap & Balance plan will permanently stop Washington from spending more than we bring in and it’s the only plan on the table with the votes to pass the House.”
