"Just wondering"...not the same as being required to buy auto insurance. You are NOT required to buy auto insurance in Texas just because you are breathing and are a citizen of Texas. But, if you "DRIVE" an auto in Texas you ARE required to buy insurance. Since driving is not a mandatory activity, you only have to buy insurance if you drive. And, YOU only have to buy liability insurance which is relatively inexpensive. Having to buy other forms of auto insurance are not required by the state, but are required by your bank in order to get a loan for your auto.

Requiring citizens to buy liability auto insurance in Texas is greatly different than Obamacare where you 'must' purchase health care insurance whether or not you need it or want it just because you are alive and live in America.
