What tha:

An outside audit is an absolute necessity for both the County and the City. It is unfortunate that the State Attorney General does not have a great deal of authority over municipal and county government.

Outside audits of these agencies have to be requested by the the agency itself. I have found no way possible to force an outside audit.

Our Mayor reminded us last night that the voters approved a 1/4% sales tax for street repair and maintenance. According to the city's recent postings regarding budget. $196,500 was expected in this tax for fiscal year 2010/2011. They have, however, only spent $91,894 on street repair/maintenance. I have not found the fund or account where the remainder of this voter approved tax money was set aside for future street repair or maintenance. This, at the very least, appears to be co-mingling of funds if not outright misappropriation of tax dollars. Maybe this is how our City Manager funded the $104,638 above budget expenditures for Professional and Legal Fees.
