Debates are not a very effective way to determine a candidate's qualifications. Often questions are designed to trip them up, when in fact, the president relies on his cabinet and advisers who have the expertise in everything from the economy to foreign affairs. What can be determined is whether or not we think we can trust a candidate's judgement when it comes to appointing his advisers.
