 		 Last nights Special City Council Meeting -

Our Mayor stated that due to a newspaper article last week that raised the possibility of a Recall that the City needed to be proactive and obtain legal council on Election Law.

One of the attorneys being considered, Melissa Killen (current 4A Corporation Legal Council), got up and spoke. She stated that as the pending lawsuit by the County Attorney was taking the majority of Lou Rosenberg's time that she and Jose Garza (General Council to LULAC and MALC) were offering their services to the City. Additionally, she said, as the City Council were the fiduciary agents of the taxpayers, their fees would be at a reduced rate (which was never disclosed) and that no fees would be incurred until their services were needed (i.e. the moment the petition is filed).

Councilwoman Castillio made the motion to hire these attorneys as it was obvious that the City (a.k.a. the Mayor and City Council) would have to counter this effort). Councilman Gomez readily seconded the motion that was passed unanimously. (It should be noted that Councilman Morones was absent from this special meeting.)

1 - Mr Mayor, since when has this administration acted proactively for anything other than your pet legacy projects? A newspaper article has changed the posture of the City such that they now feel the need to be proactive!

2 - Ms Killen, you and Jose Garza are offering your services to the City? At an undisclosed reduced rate? Your resumes reflects numerous cases where you have represented the elected officials, not the voters or citizens.

3 - Ms. Castillo, you feel the need to "counter the efforts" of the registered voters of the CIty of Floresville? A recall petition requires a minimum of 500 signatures of Registered Voters of the City of Floresville, the people that claim to be representing. I believe that you have distorted understanding of the term "representative".
